Debbie’s story: A day at the zoo (No identifiable trigger)

Onset of symptoms

My husband and I met my son and my grandson at the zoo. I was running around looking at animals with my grandson when I got an overwhelming feeling of weakness, nausea, chest tightness. We ended up leaving the zoo and drive to a hospital.

Medical management

In the ER I got much worse. My blood pressure and pulse were low. They gave me IV fluids and I went into heart failure. My EKG looked like an anterior wall heart attack. My cardiac enzymes were high, my echocardiogram was abnormal. I had a cardiac catheterization the next day and the diagnosis was made. My coronary arteries were clean.

Life after Takotsubo

It has only been two weeks. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I know it’s early but I’m anxious about my recovery. My heart rate is often in the 40-60 range. I get short of breath on exertion and when I bend over it’s worse. I’m really hoping for a full recovery. I go back to the doctor in 2 months when they will do another echocardiogram. I am hoping I am greatly improved by then.
